And I would like to see the dawn
dyeing her body with the sun
and powdering her pale
wan nose with colours.
I would like to ask her
how she can love the night
as well as the day without suffering.
I would like to see her
kiss the dark without weeping
and the glimmer that comes
to take her back by the hand.
And I would like to see the dawn
and tell her: “I too have a heart
that can love and then leave
reappearing and loving again.”

Come l’aurora

E vorrei veder l'aurora
tingersi di sole il corpo
e di colori incipriarsi
il viso pallido e smunto.
Vorrei chiederle come fa
ad amare la notte e poi
il giorno senza soffrire.
Vorrei vederla baciare
il buio senza lacrime
e poi il chiarore che arriva
a riprenderla per mano.
E vorrei veder l'aurora
per dirle: “Anch'io ho un cuore
che sa amare e poi lasciare
riapparire e amare ancora.”
