Long ago
mermaids loved men
and men loved mermaids
but they couldn't be together
because the sea didn't want.
Mermaids live in the caves
near the coasts
but the sea
filled them up with water
so that the men
could never get close.
This is why fish never laugh.
They were always sad
because their mermaids cried.
The sea was moved
and created the tide
so
when the water ebbs
the men
can enter in the caves
and be with the mermaids
and when the tide comes in
the fish can finally laugh.

La marea

Tanto tempo fa
le sirene amavano gli uomini
e gli uomini amavano le sirene
ma non potevano incontrarsi
perché il mare non voleva.
Le sirene abitano nelle grotte
vicino alla costa
ma il mare le riempiva di acqua
cosicché gli uomini
non potevano mai avvicinarsi.
Per questo i pesci non ridono.
Erano sempre tristi
perché le loro sirene piangevano.
Il mare si commosse
e creò la marea
così
quando l’acqua si ritira
gli uomini
possono scendere nelle grotte
e incontrare le sirene
e quando c’è la marea
i pesci ridono.
