The cold will come
to colour the mountains,
painting the peaks
white
and drawing the slopes
with the rays of the Winter sun.
It will silver the plains
and with frost and ice
it will cover the meadows.
The cold will come
to bathe the sky
flooding it with light
and transparent beauty.
The cold will come
and it will numb all of the people
who will count the days
until Spring comes again.

Verrà il freddo

Verrà il freddo
a colorare i monti
spennellando
di bianco le cime
e del sole d’inverno
le pendici.
Verrà il freddo
ad argentare le pianure
di brina e gelo
a ricoprirne i prati.
Verrà il freddo
a trasformare il mare
a sollevare le spumose onde
rabbuiandone l’azzurro.
Verrà il freddo
a ripulire il cielo
inondandolo di luce
e di trasparente bellezza.
Freddo verrà
a intirizzire le genti
che conteranno i giorni
per riveder primavera.
